Pros and cons of free credit report sites

With security breaches and hacks constantly in the news, more and more people are beginning to worry about identity theft on a daily basis. One of the easiest ways to protect your identity and make sure you haven’t become a victim of identity theft is to regularly check your credit report. There are a few different options for obtaining credit reports for free. First of all, you can sign up for the services of a credit monitoring service that offers a free trial period – this way you can get your free credit report and cancel the subscription before you’re charged. Alternatively, you can use the services of a free credit report site. The downside to this option is that each free credit report site is partnered with Experian, Equifax or TransUnion – the major credit reporting agencies and they actually sell your data so in the future you will get financial product offers that are tailored specifically to you, so you need to keep this in mind. Plus, you will only get access to the information from one of the three credit reporting agencies.

IdentityForce – free credit reports for 30 days

The first credit report site on our list is not free, but it does offer a free 30-day trial during which you can get credit reports without having to pay for them. When you sign up for credit report monitoring using this platform, you can choose from two plan options – the UltraSecure plan costs $12.99 a month and only includes credit monitoring and alerting. The second plan option is UltraSecure+Credit, which costs $19.99 a month and allows you to view your credit report, so if your only goal is to get your credit report and cancel the subscription, you should choose this plan.

AnnualCreditReport.com – get three free credit reports every year

Did you know that you’re entitled to one free credit report from each of the three major credit reporting companies every year? All you need to do is go to AnnualCreditReport.com and request your credit reports, which can be delivered online or by mail. The only caveat is that you will need to pay an 8-dollar fee if you want to get your credit score in addition to your credit report.

Credit Sesame – one of the best free credit report sites

Credit Sesame offers credit monitoring completely free of charge through their partnership with TransUnion, but what’s even more appealing is that when you sign up for their credit reporting services, you also get free identity theft insurance for up to $50,000 and ID restoration assistance. The downside of this service is that the Credit Sesame app has more ads compared to their competitors and that this platform advertises its tailored credit products very aggressively to get you to use them.

Quizzle – get free credit monitoring from all three credit bureaus

Another free credit monitoring service on our list is Quizzle. Unlike its competitors that provide only partial credit reports from one of the major credit reporting agencies, Quizzle provides a complete credit report from Equifax once every six months. You don’t need to enter your credit card information or pay anything to sign up for this service and they are also more upfront about the fact that they suggest you financial products based on your financial information. Quizzle also works with several large loan companies, so it also offers loans and credit card recommendations to its users.
